Postcard Alley race rules
1. Equipment

- Vessel Type: SUP or Kayak

- SUP- Participant must use a single-blade paddle.

- Kayaks- Participant must use a single-blade paddle

- Leash: For safety, participants may wear a leash but needs to be a quick release style.
2. Safety Requirements

- Life Jacket (PFD):

- Open Race- A personal flotation device (PFD) is required, either worn or attached to the board.

- Elite- Allow waist-belt PFDs.

3. Start and Finish

- Starting Line: All participants must be behind the designated starting line. Any false start results in a penalty.

- Le Mans Start (Kids Race): Paddlers begin on the beach and run to their boards, which are placed in the water or on the beach.

- Finish Line: The race is complete when the participant crosses the finish line.
4. Course

- Markers: (Elite Race)The course will be marked with buoys, flags, or other identifiable markers. Paddlers must follow the designated course.

- Turns: Participants must turn around the designated buoys in a specified direction

- Course Cutting: Any participant caught intentionally cutting the course will be disqualified.
5. Sportsmanship

- Conduct: All participants must behave in a respectful and sportsmanlike manner. Aggressive or dangerous paddling will result in penalties or disqualification.

- Interference: Deliberately hindering or obstructing other paddlers is prohibited.
6. Assistance

- Outside Help: Receiving outside assistance (e.g., from a boat or another paddler) during the race results in disqualification unless in an emergency.

- Rescue: If a paddler requires help, they should signal by waving their paddle in the air.
8. Penalties

- False Start: Restart will be enforced for false starts.

- Course Violations: Missing buoys or cutting the course results in time penalties or disqualification.

- Unsportsmanlike Behavior: Immediate disqualification for poor conduct, intentional interference, or ignoring safety rules.
9. Timekeeping and Results

- Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie, the finish will be determined by photo or video review.

- Protests: Any participant wishing to protest a result must do so in writing within 30 minutes of finishing the race.
10. Race Briefing

- A pre-race briefing will be held to explain the course, safety protocols, and any updates to the rules.
11. Weather Conditions

- In case of unsafe weather conditions, the race director may delay or cancel the event for safety reasons. Participants will be informed of any changes to the schedule.
